This wood abacus is designed by Dr. Leo Richards who was the head of the Soroban Institute in the USA. It has slightly larger beads for easier manipulation and visualization for beginners. This abacus works well as a teacher's abacus and can be used with an overhead projector.

With 5 digits it can go up to 99,999. It is possible to learn multiplication with small numbers. An abacus with more digits is necessary for some advanced concepts, but we find that this one is great for what most kids learn on an abacus.

Fine construction with a durable and attractive finish allow this abacus to stand up to lots of use. Makes a wonderful gift.
